The charge resolution ofCR39

The charge resolution of the INTERCAST CR39 was determined using samples exposed to sulphur ions of 200 GeV/nucleon [1]. The results are shown in the 'Charge Resolution' figure. For ions with charge in the range 6 < Z < 16 the charge resolution is 0.05e (e=unit electric charge) for Z=7 and 0.07e for Z=13. The slight worsening of the charge resolution with the increasing Z is due to the non linear increase of the etch-pit areas with increasing charge.
